What Can Really Be Done to Cure Hemorrhoids?

I have had hemorrhoids for about 3 years. I do not have insurance so I have never been to the doctor but have used the Preparation H gel and suppositories. The gel doesn't seem to really help and while the suppositories do help I really don't like using them. If I did go to the doctor is there like a prescription I could get that would take care of it or at least cure the symptoms?

And would I just go to a regular doctor or what? I appreciate any and all help.
